About US Dollar / South African Rand
USD/ZAR is the exchange rate between the US dollar and the South African rand. The price shows how many South African rand one US dollar buys: when USDZAR rises, the US dollar is strengthening against the South African rand; when it falls, it is weakening.
USD/ZAR is an exotic pair, combining a major currency with an emerging or smaller-market currency, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The US dollar is the world's main reserve currency and sits on one side of most foreign-exchange trades. The South African rand is a liquid emerging-market currency linked to commodity exports such as gold and platinum and to global risk appetite.
On Xellion's MT5 platform USDZAR is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 US dollars; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.
