Frequently asked questions
How is profit calculated on a forex trade?
Profit = (close price − open price) × contract size × lots for a buy, and the reverse for a sell. The result is in the pair's quote currency and then converted into your account currency.
Does the result include spreads, commission or swaps?
No. The calculator shows the gross result. Spreads, any commission and overnight swaps are shown in MT5 and reduce the final result.
How do I calculate profit on a sell trade?
A sell profits when the price falls. Selling 1 lot of EURUSD at 1.0850 and closing at 1.0820 makes 30 pips, or 300 USD.
Can I use it to check a stop loss?
Yes. Enter your stop-loss price as the close price to see how much you would lose if the stop is hit.
Are past results a guide to future ones?
No. The calculator only does the maths for prices you enter; it doesn't predict where markets will go.
