ABOUT

About US Dollar / Thai Baht

USD/THB is the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Thai baht. The price shows how many Thai baht one US dollar buys: when USDTHB rises, the US dollar is strengthening against the Thai baht; when it falls, it is weakening.

USD/THB is an exotic pair, combining a major currency with an emerging or smaller-market currency, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The US dollar is the world's main reserve currency and sits on one side of most foreign-exchange trades. The Thai baht reflects an economy built on exports and tourism, and it is influenced by regional growth in Asia.

On Xellion's MT5 platform USDTHB is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 US dollars; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Thailand, and expectations for where they go next
  • US inflation (CPI) and jobs reports such as Non-Farm Payrolls
  • US Treasury yields
  • Tourism and export data
  • Bank of Thailand policy decisions
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the United States and Thailand

FAQ

USDTHB questions

What does the USDTHB price mean?

It is the number of Thai baht needed to buy one US dollar. A rising price means the US dollar is gaining against the Thai baht; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is USDTHB most active?

USDTHB trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the Tokyo and New York sessions. The forex market hours tool shows those sessions in your local time.

How much is one pip worth on USDTHB?

Pip value on USDTHB depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Thai baht exchange rate against your account currency. Because Thai baht are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of USDTHB?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 US dollars, so at 1:500 you need 200 USD and at 1:100 you need 1,000 USD, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
