ABOUT

About US Dollar / Swedish Krona

USD/SEK is the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Swedish krona. The price shows how many Swedish kronor one US dollar buys: when USDSEK rises, the US dollar is strengthening against the Swedish krona; when it falls, it is weakening.

USD/SEK is an exotic pair, combining a major currency with an emerging or smaller-market currency, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The US dollar is the world's main reserve currency and sits on one side of most foreign-exchange trades. The Swedish krona reflects a small, export-oriented economy and is sensitive to global growth and risk appetite.

On Xellion's MT5 platform USDSEK is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 US dollars; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the Federal Reserve and Sveriges Riksbank, and expectations for where they go next
  • US inflation (CPI) and jobs reports such as Non-Farm Payrolls
  • US Treasury yields
  • Riksbank policy and Swedish inflation
  • Global manufacturing and trade data
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the United States and Sweden

FAQ

USDSEK questions

What does the USDSEK price mean?

It is the number of Swedish kronor needed to buy one US dollar. A rising price means the US dollar is gaining against the Swedish krona; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is USDSEK most active?

USDSEK trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the London and New York sessions, and especially in the hours when the two sessions overlap. The forex market hours tool shows those sessions in your local time.

How much is one pip worth on USDSEK?

Pip value on USDSEK depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Swedish krona exchange rate against your account currency. Because Swedish kronor are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of USDSEK?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 US dollars, so at 1:500 you need 200 USD and at 1:100 you need 1,000 USD, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
