ABOUT

About US Dollar / Philippine Peso

USD/PHP is the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Philippine peso. The price shows how many Philippine pesos one US dollar buys: when USDPHP rises, the US dollar is strengthening against the Philippine peso; when it falls, it is weakening.

USD/PHP is an exotic pair, combining a major currency with an emerging or smaller-market currency, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The US dollar is the world's main reserve currency and sits on one side of most foreign-exchange trades. The Philippine peso is supported by large remittance flows from Filipinos working overseas.

Where offered on Xellion's MT5 platform, USDPHP is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 US dollars; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the Federal Reserve and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and expectations for where they go next
  • US inflation (CPI) and jobs reports such as Non-Farm Payrolls
  • US Treasury yields
  • Overseas remittance flows
  • Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas policy and Philippine inflation
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the United States and the Philippines

FAQ

USDPHP questions

What does the USDPHP price mean?

It is the number of Philippine pesos needed to buy one US dollar. A rising price means the US dollar is gaining against the Philippine peso; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is USDPHP most active?

USDPHP trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the Tokyo and New York sessions. The forex market hours tool shows those sessions in your local time.

How much is one pip worth on USDPHP?

Pip value on USDPHP depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Philippine peso exchange rate against your account currency. Because Philippine pesos are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of USDPHP?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 US dollars, so at 1:500 you need 200 USD and at 1:100 you need 1,000 USD, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
