ABOUT

About British Pound / Norwegian Krone

GBP/NOK is the exchange rate between the British pound and the Norwegian krone. The price shows how many Norwegian kroner one British pound buys: when GBPNOK rises, the British pound is strengthening against the Norwegian krone; when it falls, it is weakening.

GBP/NOK is a minor or exotic cross, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The British pound is one of the oldest currencies still in use and is traded heavily in London, the largest forex centre. The Norwegian krone is tied to oil and gas, Norway's main exports, and to flows from its large sovereign wealth fund.

On Xellion's MT5 platform GBPNOK is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 British pounds; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

FAQ

GBPNOK questions

What does the GBPNOK price mean?

It is the number of Norwegian kroner needed to buy one British pound. A rising price means the British pound is gaining against the Norwegian krone; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is GBPNOK most active?

Like all major FX pairs, GBPNOK trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the London session, when markets for both currencies are open.

How much is one pip worth on GBPNOK?

Pip value on GBPNOK depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Norwegian krone exchange rate against your account currency. Because Norwegian kroner are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of GBPNOK?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 British pounds, so at 1:500 you need 200 GBP and at 1:100 you need 1,000 GBP, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
