About British Pound / Japanese Yen
GBP/JPY is the exchange rate between the British pound and the Japanese yen. The price shows how many Japanese yen one British pound buys: when GBPJPY rises, the British pound is strengthening against the Japanese yen; when it falls, it is weakening. Traders often call it "Guppy".
GBP/JPY is a cross pair: neither side is the US dollar, so its price reflects the balance between the United Kingdom and Japan directly. The British pound is one of the oldest currencies still in use and is traded heavily in London, the largest forex centre. The Japanese yen has long been used as a funding currency because of Japan's low interest rates, and it often strengthens when markets turn risk-averse.
On Xellion's MT5 platform GBPJPY is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 British pounds, and one pip is 0.01, as with other pairs quoted in yen.
