Personal consumption expenditures price index
The personal consumption expenditures price index, or PCE price index, measures changes in prices for goods and services consumed by US households, including purchases made on their behalf. The Federal Reserve uses headline PCE inflation for its inflation target; core PCE excludes food and energy.
In a hypothetical release, headline PCE inflation slows because energy prices fall, while core PCE inflation remains unchanged, indicating a different pattern outside food and energy.
