Monetary policy
Monetary policy comprises central bank actions aimed at influencing financial conditions to pursue objectives such as price stability and, in some jurisdictions, employment. Tools include policy interest rates, asset transactions and communication, with effects that unfold over time.
In a hypothetical decision, a central bank raises its policy rate from 3% to 3.25%, an increase of 0.25 percentage points, or 25 basis points.
