ABOUT

About Euro / Turkish Lira

EUR/TRY is the exchange rate between the euro and the Turkish lira. The price shows how many Turkish lira one euro buys: when EURTRY rises, the euro is strengthening against the Turkish lira; when it falls, it is weakening.

EUR/TRY is a minor or exotic cross, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The euro is the shared currency of the euro-area countries and is the second most widely held reserve currency. The Turkish lira is a high-volatility emerging-market currency that has historically reacted strongly to inflation and changes in monetary policy.

On Xellion's MT5 platform EURTRY is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 euros; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the European Central Bank and the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, and expectations for where they go next
  • Euro-area inflation and growth data, especially from Germany
  • Business surveys such as the euro-area PMIs
  • Turkish inflation data and central bank decisions
  • Political news and changes in economic policy
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the euro area and Turkey

FAQ

EURTRY questions

What does the EURTRY price mean?

It is the number of Turkish lira needed to buy one euro. A rising price means the euro is gaining against the Turkish lira; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is EURTRY most active?

Like all major FX pairs, EURTRY trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the London session, when markets for both currencies are open.

How much is one pip worth on EURTRY?

Pip value on EURTRY depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Turkish lira exchange rate against your account currency. Because Turkish lira are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of EURTRY?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 euros, so at 1:500 you need 200 EUR and at 1:100 you need 1,000 EUR, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
