ABOUT

About Euro / Singapore Dollar

EUR/SGD is the exchange rate between the euro and the Singapore dollar. The price shows how many Singapore dollars one euro buys: when EURSGD rises, the euro is strengthening against the Singapore dollar; when it falls, it is weakening.

EUR/SGD is a minor or exotic cross, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The euro is the shared currency of the euro-area countries and is the second most widely held reserve currency. The Singapore dollar is managed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore against a basket of trading-partner currencies rather than through an interest-rate target.

On Xellion's MT5 platform EURSGD is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 euros; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the European Central Bank and the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and expectations for where they go next
  • Euro-area inflation and growth data, especially from Germany
  • Business surveys such as the euro-area PMIs
  • Singapore trade and inflation data
  • Policy statements from the Monetary Authority of Singapore
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the euro area and Singapore

FAQ

EURSGD questions

What does the EURSGD price mean?

It is the number of Singapore dollars needed to buy one euro. A rising price means the euro is gaining against the Singapore dollar; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is EURSGD most active?

EURSGD trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the Tokyo and London sessions, and especially in the hours when the two sessions overlap. The forex market hours tool shows those sessions in your local time.

How much is one pip worth on EURSGD?

Pip value on EURSGD depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Singapore dollar exchange rate against your account currency. Because Singapore dollars are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of EURSGD?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 euros, so at 1:500 you need 200 EUR and at 1:100 you need 1,000 EUR, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
