ABOUT

About Euro / Swedish Krona

EUR/SEK is the exchange rate between the euro and the Swedish krona. The price shows how many Swedish kronor one euro buys: when EURSEK rises, the euro is strengthening against the Swedish krona; when it falls, it is weakening.

EUR/SEK is a minor or exotic cross, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The euro is the shared currency of the euro-area countries and is the second most widely held reserve currency. The Swedish krona reflects a small, export-oriented economy and is sensitive to global growth and risk appetite.

On Xellion's MT5 platform EURSEK is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 euros; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the European Central Bank and Sveriges Riksbank, and expectations for where they go next
  • Euro-area inflation and growth data, especially from Germany
  • Business surveys such as the euro-area PMIs
  • Riksbank policy and Swedish inflation
  • Global manufacturing and trade data
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the euro area and Sweden

FAQ

EURSEK questions

What does the EURSEK price mean?

It is the number of Swedish kronor needed to buy one euro. A rising price means the euro is gaining against the Swedish krona; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is EURSEK most active?

Like all major FX pairs, EURSEK trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the London session, when markets for both currencies are open.

How much is one pip worth on EURSEK?

Pip value on EURSEK depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Swedish krona exchange rate against your account currency. Because Swedish kronor are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of EURSEK?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 euros, so at 1:500 you need 200 EUR and at 1:100 you need 1,000 EUR, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
