ABOUT

About Euro / Norwegian Krone

EUR/NOK is the exchange rate between the euro and the Norwegian krone. The price shows how many Norwegian kroner one euro buys: when EURNOK rises, the euro is strengthening against the Norwegian krone; when it falls, it is weakening.

EUR/NOK is a minor or exotic cross, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The euro is the shared currency of the euro-area countries and is the second most widely held reserve currency. The Norwegian krone is tied to oil and gas, Norway's main exports, and to flows from its large sovereign wealth fund.

On Xellion's MT5 platform EURNOK is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 euros; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the European Central Bank and Norges Bank, and expectations for where they go next
  • Euro-area inflation and growth data, especially from Germany
  • Business surveys such as the euro-area PMIs
  • Crude oil and natural gas prices
  • Norges Bank policy and Norwegian inflation
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the euro area and Norway

FAQ

EURNOK questions

What does the EURNOK price mean?

It is the number of Norwegian kroner needed to buy one euro. A rising price means the euro is gaining against the Norwegian krone; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is EURNOK most active?

Like all major FX pairs, EURNOK trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the London session, when markets for both currencies are open.

How much is one pip worth on EURNOK?

Pip value on EURNOK depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Norwegian krone exchange rate against your account currency. Because Norwegian kroner are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of EURNOK?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 euros, so at 1:500 you need 200 EUR and at 1:100 you need 1,000 EUR, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
