ABOUT

About Euro / Mexican Peso

EUR/MXN is the exchange rate between the euro and the Mexican peso. The price shows how many Mexican pesos one euro buys: when EURMXN rises, the euro is strengthening against the Mexican peso; when it falls, it is weakening.

EUR/MXN is a minor or exotic cross, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The euro is the shared currency of the euro-area countries and is the second most widely held reserve currency. The Mexican peso is one of the most traded emerging-market currencies and is closely linked to the US economy through trade.

On Xellion's MT5 platform EURMXN is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 euros; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the European Central Bank and the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), and expectations for where they go next
  • Euro-area inflation and growth data, especially from Germany
  • Business surveys such as the euro-area PMIs
  • US–Mexico trade and policy news
  • Banxico interest-rate decisions and Mexican inflation
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the euro area and Mexico

FAQ

EURMXN questions

What does the EURMXN price mean?

It is the number of Mexican pesos needed to buy one euro. A rising price means the euro is gaining against the Mexican peso; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is EURMXN most active?

EURMXN trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the London and New York sessions, and especially in the hours when the two sessions overlap. The forex market hours tool shows those sessions in your local time.

How much is one pip worth on EURMXN?

Pip value on EURMXN depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Mexican peso exchange rate against your account currency. Because Mexican pesos are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of EURMXN?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 euros, so at 1:500 you need 200 EUR and at 1:100 you need 1,000 EUR, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
