ABOUT

About Euro / Hungarian Forint

EUR/HUF is the exchange rate between the euro and the Hungarian forint. The price shows how many Hungarian forints one euro buys: when EURHUF rises, the euro is strengthening against the Hungarian forint; when it falls, it is weakening.

EUR/HUF is a minor or exotic cross, so it usually trades with less liquidity and wider spreads than the majors and can move sharply around local news. The euro is the shared currency of the euro-area countries and is the second most widely held reserve currency. The Hungarian forint is a freely floating central European currency that can react sharply to changes in inflation and global risk appetite.

On Xellion's MT5 platform EURHUF is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 euros; the pip size and value are shown in the MT5 contract specification.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the European Central Bank and the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, and expectations for where they go next
  • Euro-area inflation and growth data, especially from Germany
  • Business surveys such as the euro-area PMIs
  • Hungarian inflation and central bank decisions
  • Relations with the European Union and EU funding news
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the euro area and Hungary

FAQ

EURHUF questions

What does the EURHUF price mean?

It is the number of Hungarian forints needed to buy one euro. A rising price means the euro is gaining against the Hungarian forint; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is EURHUF most active?

Like all major FX pairs, EURHUF trades around the clock on weekdays, but it is usually busiest during the London session, when markets for both currencies are open.

How much is one pip worth on EURHUF?

Pip value on EURHUF depends on the pip size in the MT5 contract specification and on the Hungarian forint exchange rate against your account currency. Because Hungarian forints are converted into your account currency, the value per pip changes as that rate moves.

How much margin do I need for one lot of EURHUF?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 euros, so at 1:500 you need 200 EUR and at 1:100 you need 1,000 EUR, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
