ABOUT

About Euro / Australian Dollar

EUR/AUD is the exchange rate between the euro and the Australian dollar. The price shows how many Australian dollars one euro buys: when EURAUD rises, the euro is strengthening against the Australian dollar; when it falls, it is weakening.

EUR/AUD is a cross pair: neither side is the US dollar, so its price reflects the balance between the euro area and Australia directly. The euro is the shared currency of the euro-area countries and is the second most widely held reserve currency. The Australian dollar is closely linked to commodity exports such as iron ore and to demand from China, Australia's largest trading partner.

On Xellion's MT5 platform EURAUD is traded as a CFD, so you can go long or short without exchanging either currency. One standard lot is 100,000 euros, and one pip is 0.0001.

What moves the price

  • The gap between interest rates set by the European Central Bank and the Reserve Bank of Australia, and expectations for where they go next
  • Euro-area inflation and growth data, especially from Germany
  • Business surveys such as the euro-area PMIs
  • Iron ore and other commodity prices
  • Chinese economic data
  • Trade flows and major economic releases from the euro area and Australia

FAQ

EURAUD questions

What does the EURAUD price mean?

It is the number of Australian dollars needed to buy one euro. A rising price means the euro is gaining against the Australian dollar; a falling price means it is losing ground.

When is EURAUD most active?

A pip on EURAUD is 0.0001. On one standard lot of 100,000 euros that is 10 AUD per pip, converted into your account currency. The pip calculator works it out for any lot size.

How much margin do I need for one lot of EURAUD?

Margin is the position value divided by your leverage. One lot is 100,000 euros, so at 1:500 you need 200 EUR and at 1:100 you need 1,000 EUR, converted into your account currency. Leverage up to 1:2000 is available depending on your account; the margin calculator gives the exact figure.
