Unemployment rate
The unemployment rate is the percentage of the labour force without work who are available for work and actively seeking it, subject to local statistical definitions. The labour force includes employed and unemployed people, not everyone of working age.
EXAMPLE
In a hypothetical economy, 500 people are unemployed within a labour force of 10,000. The unemployment rate is therefore 5%.
