Inventory report
An inventory report publishes information about stored quantities of a commodity, often showing changes over a reporting period. Traders compare the figures with expectations and seasonal patterns to assess supply and demand, but coverage, timing and revisions can limit interpretation.
In a hypothetical report, crude stocks fall from 100 million to 98 million barrels, a decline of 2 million barrels; the market reaction depends partly on expectations.
