Natural gas
Natural gas is a fossil fuel composed mainly of methane, used for heating, electricity generation and industrial processes. Prices can vary substantially across regional markets because weather, storage levels, pipeline capacity and liquefied natural gas infrastructure influence supply and demand.
In a hypothetical cold spell, heating demand rises while pipeline capacity is constrained, putting upward pressure on natural gas prices in the affected region.
