TRADING GLOSSARY
Immediate-or-cancel order
An immediate-or-cancel order executes whatever quantity is immediately available at acceptable prices and cancels any remainder. Unlike a fill-or-kill order, it permits partial execution, but no unfilled quantity stays active afterward.
EXAMPLE
In a hypothetical example, an immediate-or-cancel order requests 100 units. If 60 units can execute immediately, those 60 fill and the remaining 40 are cancelled.
