First notice day
First notice day is the earliest day on which a delivery notice may be issued under a physically delivered futures contract's rules. A holder of a long position may become subject to delivery assignment, and brokers may set earlier position-closing deadlines.
For example, a trader holding a deliverable grain futures position checks first notice day separately from expiry because delivery assignment may begin earlier.
