Earnings per share
Earnings per share, or EPS, measures profit attributable to ordinary shareholders divided by the weighted-average number of ordinary shares outstanding during a period. Diluted EPS also reflects potentially dilutive securities, such as certain options or convertible debt.
In a hypothetical reporting period, £6 million of profit attributable to ordinary shareholders divided by 3 million weighted-average shares gives basic EPS of £2.
