TRADING GLOSSARY
Deflation
Deflation is a sustained decline in the general price level of goods and services. It increases money’s purchasing power but can raise the inflation-adjusted burden of existing debt and accompany weak spending or economic activity.
EXAMPLE
In a hypothetical economy, a broad price index falls from 100 to 98 over a year, showing annual deflation of 2%.
