Recession
A recession is a significant, broad-based decline in economic activity lasting more than a few months. Two consecutive quarters of falling real GDP are a common shorthand, but official assessments may also consider employment, income, production, and spending.
In a hypothetical economy, output, employment, and household spending decline for several months. These combined developments may support an assessment of recession.
