ABOUT

About Coffee

Coffee (COFFEE) is a commodity linked to the global market for coffee beans, which are grown, processed and roasted for consumption. Futures markets provide reference prices for the physical trade. Quotation conventions depend on the underlying benchmark: arabica is commonly quoted in US cents per pound, while robusta is commonly quoted in US dollars per tonne.

Coffee is distinctive because its supply depends on growing conditions, harvest cycles and the characteristics of different bean varieties. Arabica and robusta serve different uses and can respond differently to changes in availability. Frost, drought, crop disease and shipping disruption can affect supply, while roasting preferences and consumer demand influence how beans are bought and blended.

On Xellion's MT5 platform, Coffee is traded as a CFD, allowing a position to be long or short without owning the underlying asset or taking delivery of beans. The CFD provides exposure to price movements rather than physical coffee. Trading takes place during the underlying futures exchange session, Monday to Friday. Leverage magnifies both gains and losses.

FAQ

COFFEE questions

How do arabica and robusta affect coffee pricing?

Arabica and robusta have different growing requirements, flavour characteristics and commercial uses. Their supply conditions can diverge, while changes in their relative prices may influence roasters' blends. The underlying benchmark determines which part of the coffee market a contract reflects.

Why is coffee sensitive to weather?

Coffee trees depend on suitable temperatures and rainfall through flowering, bean development and harvest. Frost, prolonged dryness or excessive rain can affect yields and quality. Price responses depend on the location, severity and timing of the weather event.

When can Coffee CFDs be traded on Xellion?

Coffee CFDs trade during the underlying futures exchange session, Monday to Friday. Exchange holidays and session breaks can affect availability. The instrument details on Xellion's MT5 platform provide the applicable trading schedule.

Does trading a Coffee CFD involve receiving coffee beans?

No. A Coffee CFD on Xellion's MT5 platform gives exposure to price changes without ownership or physical delivery of coffee beans. Positions can be long or short, and leveraged trading can magnify losses as well as gains.
