TRADING GLOSSARY
Trade balance
The trade balance is the value of exports minus imports over a specified period. Exports exceeding imports produce a surplus; imports exceeding exports produce a deficit. Some releases cover goods only, while others include both goods and services.
EXAMPLE
In a hypothetical month, a country exports goods worth $80 billion and imports goods worth $95 billion, creating a goods trade deficit of $15 billion.
