Straight-through processing
Straight-through processing, or STP, means handling trade information electronically through stages such as order routing, execution, and settlement without routine manual re-entry. In brokerage, the label alone does not establish who acts as counterparty or how every order is handled.
In an illustrative workflow, an order moves electronically from a broker's platform to an execution provider, and the resulting trade details feed automatically into processing systems.
