TRADING GLOSSARY
Ex-dividend date
The ex-dividend date is the date from which a share trades without entitlement to a specified upcoming dividend. Buyers on or after that date generally do not receive that payment; exact timing depends on exchange rules and settlement arrangements.
EXAMPLE
In a hypothetical ordinary dividend schedule, a share goes ex-dividend on Tuesday; someone buying it that day does not qualify for the upcoming payment.
