Dark pool
A dark pool is a trading venue or facility where orders are not displayed publicly before execution. Often used for equities, it can limit disclosure of trading intentions, although reporting obligations vary and execution or reduced market impact is not guaranteed.
In an illustrative equity trade, an institution submits a large order to a dark pool. It executes only if compatible interest is available under the facility's rules.
