Consumer confidence
Consumer confidence describes households' views about economic conditions and their own financial prospects, usually measured through surveys. Confidence indices can provide clues about spending intentions, but survey sentiment does not always translate into actual purchases.
In a hypothetical survey, households become more optimistic about employment but remain cautious about major purchases, producing stronger confidence without an immediate increase in spending.
