TRADING GLOSSARY
Breakout
A breakout occurs when price moves beyond an identified support level, resistance level or chart boundary. It may indicate a change in trading conditions, but the move can fail; analysts use different criteria to distinguish a sustained break from a brief crossing.
EXAMPLE
In a hypothetical example, price repeatedly stalls at 100, then rises to 103 and remains above the former resistance level.
