Advance-decline line
The advance-decline line is a cumulative market-breadth indicator that adds the number of advancing stocks minus declining stocks to its previous value each session. Stocks with unchanged prices contribute nothing; differences between the line and an index can highlight changes in market participation.
In a hypothetical session, 600 stocks advance and 400 decline. If the previous advance-decline line value was 2,000, its new value is 2,200.
