Trading halt
A trading halt is a temporary suspension of trading in a security or market, typically imposed by an exchange or regulator. Reasons can include pending news, order imbalances or technical problems, and the reopening price may differ substantially from the last traded price.
In a hypothetical scenario, an exchange halts a company’s shares before a major announcement, then resumes trading after the information is released.
