Sector rotation
Sector rotation is a shift in investment exposure from one industry sector to another, often linked to changing expectations for growth, interest rates, or earnings. It can describe portfolio decisions or broader market patterns, but sectors do not follow a fixed or reliable performance sequence.
In a hypothetical portfolio, a manager reduces technology holdings and increases utility holdings as economic expectations weaken. This illustrates sector rotation, not a guaranteed improvement in returns.
