TRADING GLOSSARY
Market capitalisation
Market capitalisation is the total market value of a company's outstanding shares, calculated by multiplying its share price by the number of shares outstanding. It measures equity market value, not the company's total value including debt.
EXAMPLE
In a hypothetical example, a company with 10 million outstanding shares priced at £5 each has a market capitalisation of £50 million.
